Opah Wah

History

WOW Herbal Oil, derived from the initials of Warisan Opah Wah (Opah Wah’s Heritage), is a meticulously crafted herbal oil personally formulated by Opah Wah, whose real name is Wah binti Abdullah. Opah Wah, born around the year 1932 before Malaysia gained independence, hails from a Chinese Ipoh heritage but migrated to Pulau Pangkor, Perak.

In the aftermath of World War II, which witnessed numerous Japanese soldiers losing their lives in mainland China, a deep-seated animosity towards the Chinese community in Malaya emerged in 1942. Many Chinese families and children faced brutal persecution, prompting concerns for Opah Wah’s safety. At the age of 12, Opah Wah was relocated by her family to Bagan Datoh and entrusted to a Malay foster family.

By the age of 14, Opah Wah entered into matrimony with Ahmad bin Kulup Berkat, a practitioner of traditional medicine in Kampung Pasang Api, Bagan Datoh, Perak. It marked the inception of Opah Wah’s journey into the realm of traditional medicine.

Around the 1960s, Opah Wah embarked on her career as a village midwife, providing childbirth-related services to the local community in Bagan Datoh. Despite her petite stature, Opah Wah possessed an indomitable spirit. She personally sought and gathered herbs and coconuts to create traditional oil formulations. Opah Wah’s singular goal was to aid rural women in obtaining traditional herbal remedies and oils for postpartum care.

Her legacy, encapsulated in WOW Herbal Oil, stands as a testament to Opah Wah’s dedication to enhancing the well-being of women in rural communities through the provision of traditional healing solutions.
